Our Science

Ferosom Forte is a ferric pyrophosphate iron that is micro-encapsulated in Liposomal form with our proprietary LCE coating.

This breakthrough formulation allows for maximum absorption across the entire small intestine via endocytosis (when cells take the whole iron element and absorb it). This unique pathway limits the amount of free floating-iron, resulting in minimal gastrointestinal (GI) disturbances like constipation, nausea and stomach pain.

Ferosom Forte was formulated to offer higher absorption and lower side effects than the three leading supplement types. See how it compares iron salts, complex iron and heme iron above.
How Is It Absorbed?

Typical iron supplements must be converted in the stomach from Ferric to Ferrous, and are absorbed in the stomach and early parts of the intestinal tract. This increases the impact of other factors limiting absorption.

These iron products are often receptor dependent, impacted by hepcidin, food and beverages. With only 10-20% absorption, they leave a lot of "free-floating" iron which causes all the common GI side effects associated with iron supplements.

Ferosom Forte uses its LCE coating to protect the iron
from stomach acids and stop the conversion of Ferric to Ferrous, which is typically required.
The liposomal form then allows for a unique absorption
through the process of endocytosis, which ensures the entire iron element is absorbed by the body’s cells.
This process occurs across the entire intestinal tract
which is made up of the duodenum, jejunum and ileum. In addition, absorption is not affected by Hepcidin levels, treating functioning and absolute anemia.
The result is an overall increase in surface area
where iron can be fully absorbed, ensuring very minimal is wasted and left floating around.
